Project Overview

Whale Coast Mall

The mall itself adheres rigidly to top retail principles in terms of flow and layout, and the architecture is contemporary and modern. The main façade is designed to announce itself to the passing traffic, sporting large whale tail-like features that give a nod to the area’s pristine oceanic biodiversity.

Hermanus is a seaside town, south-east of Cape Town, in South Africa’s Western Cape, and is internationally known as a whale-watching destination. It is this extraordinary attribute that shaped the identity and branding of Whale Coast Mall from the building silhouette, to the playful floating public art work in the centre’s expo court. With a street address directly off the main arterial connecting Cape Town to Hermanus and other towns along the Whale Coast, it provides a well-positioned retail offering to the local shopper as well as seasonal holiday makers and year-round travellers.
